Met up with my brother up at Grimwith with a view to giving my girlfriend a practice on my 125 ltr board. Wind was a bit too strong and really gusty close to the shore but I rigged up y 4.5 and sent her out. It's only about her 4th time on a board so it was probably a bit mean to send her out in a F6 on a wobbly 125ltr board!!
After she was done (not too long, no brownie points gained) I gave the 4.5 a go and was well powered up in the gusts but struggled a bit in some of the lulls so had to rig up the 5.3 instead. The wind turned more westerly and cleaned up to a solid F6 but I wasn't going to change back down. I always like to sail underpowered so it was good practice to be totally stacked for a whole session. Managed to progress slightly on my gybes, usually my feet wander around aimlessly on the board and end up flicking the rig way too late. This time I managed to leave my front foot in the strap and flip the rig. I'll practice sailing out switch footed to try and concentrate on the flip next time.
Looks like a top day for saturday up at Grimwith. The mountain forecast provided by Metcheck.com is superb for up there.
Just a week to go before our holiday to Brandon Bay so best get as much practice as possible.
